IIT's Mathematics and Science Education department has partnered with Biotechnology Institute and the Field Museum's Evolving Planet & Harris Educational Loan Program to provide supplemental educational resources.

Biotechnology InstituteThe Biotechnology Institute is the industry initiative to educate teachers and students about the achievements and promise of biotechnology. The Institute provides reliable information and perspective through educational programs. Collectively, these programs reach a spectrum of audiences that the Institute engages and educates about biotechnology–pre-college, undergraduate, and graduate students and middle, high school, two-year, and four-year college faculty, industry representatives, and opinion leaders.

Evolving PlanetWhat did the world look like through the eyes of a 500-million-year-old trilobite? What could you see, hear, and smell in the swampy forest that was Chicago…300 million years ago? How would it feel to touch the face of our early human cousins?

Evolving Planet takes visitors on an awe-inspiring journey through 4 billion years of life on Earth, from single-celled organisms to towering dinosaurs and our extended human family. Unique fossils, animated videos, hands-on interactive displays, and recreated sea- and landscapes help tell the compelling story of evolution—the single process that connects everything that’s ever lived on Earth.

If you’re looking for dinosaurs, this is the place! Evolving Planet features an expanded dinosaur hall including every major group, the worlds they lived in, and what we’ve learned from T. rex Sue. And throughout the exhibition, Field Museum scientists show visitors what we’re still learning about the past, present, and future of life on Earth

Harris Educational Loan ProgramWhether you are a long-time borrower of Harris materials or just now are becoming aware of the program, you will find the Harris Loan Program to be a valuable educational resource for your classroom or your home. The Harris Loan Program has been serving Chicago-area educators and families for over 85 years. Originally funded through an endowment from Norman Wait Harris in 1911, the Harris Educational Loan Program links The Field Museum with Chicago-area schools. Thousands of loans are made to classroom educators, informal educators and parents each year. Tens of thousands of children benefit from the program. We offer four types of educational media from which to choose
